Cosworth propose boost button
Posted: 01 May 06 12:45 PM (N/A)

From racing-live.com :

Power to pass coming to Formula One?

F1 should copy the innovation of Champ Car and A1GP series by introducing a boost button.

That is the proposal of independent engine maker Cosworth, whose V8 and V10 units respectively power Williams and Toro Rosso around the tracks of the pinnacle of motor sport.

Following the Imola race, where Fernando Alonso could not find a way past winner Michael Schumacher despite driving a quicker car for much of the race, Cosworth's commercial director Bernard Ferguson told Autosprint that the button could be pressed a limited number of times during a race to deliver a horse power surge.

He said: "It's a spectacular and relatively simple solution. "

But it is already being suggested that a uniform 'boost button' could only be introduced if it accompanied an FIA-imposed rev-limit. Most cars already feature an 'over-rev' button for overtaking, delivering a burst of power beyond the limits of the engine's normal revs.
