Ferrari fluke as Renault make the wrong call
Posted: 23 Apr 06 7:31 PM (United Kingdom)
Ok not a long message from me today..just popped out of bed for a short time - for once watched an afternoon race from  bed - yeap Im feeling THAT tired and ill !!  :o((

But that race was Renaults for the taking... Scummi  has won a race this season  which DIDNT consist of a total of 6 cars on the track...just aslong as he doesnt expect to be on the top step again ... IF and  IF Renault hadnt of made the wrong call - THEN it would of been second step for Scummi... but it was Imola - and Ferrari do tend to do well there..

Best giggle today for me ( well I managed a  smile atleast) Buttplug on his 2nd pitstop...what a  mess !!!

RBR guys !!...what happened? mind you does ANYONE REALLY know what was going on during the rest of the race..all the coverage was on teh leading guys with the odd snatch glimpse of the others...  Ohhh did see DC  slowing  down  ( WOW - thanks tv directors) and didnt see anything of the Williams, BMW, or anyone else...

Ok  back off to bed I go....and tomorrow I will sort out the winners from this months competitions...and get the newsletter to Freddie...so apologies for those of you  that get that and you receive it late....

Well, Pat Symonds has another opinion on crash.net :

Symonds: We still would have finished second.

Pat Symonds has insisted that Fernando Alonso would still have finished in second place had he kept to the planned strategy for his second stop.

With Michael Schumacher struggling greatly with tyre degredation during the second stint of the race, allowing Alonso to home in on the seven-time world champion in just ten laps, it was thought that the Spaniard would merely vault him when he came in for his second stop, particularly as he was expected to run several laps longer.

However, this was not the case according to Symonds, who claimed that Alonso had been short fuelled at his first pit stop to get ahead of Jenson Button and Felipe Massa, meaning he had a maximum of just one more lap than Schumacher, a lap that was not thought to have been enough to get him ahead.

"Things became very surprising (in the middle stint). Michael's tyre degradation was suddenly dreadful – and it very soon became clear that we were significantly quicker than him, and running much faster. It took Fernando less than ten laps to close the gap and start pressuring him."

Now who is he trying to fool ? Try to make Flavio eat that - I won't eat it ! I am quite sure we all know pretty well that moving Alonso's second stop was a bad, bad mistake

I have NOT lost my mind — I have it backed up on tape somewhere.

Who are they trying to kid???? It wasa bad call...The tried to play clever and it backfired..It happens to the  best ..and why say one thing after the  race and then another thing later on...

Alonso was  tons quicker than Scummi  yesterday and every other race we have had over the last two seasons...Imola you just cant overtake.... Nuburgring ..Scummi helped to design it so it fits his style of driving... so they MAY POSSIBLY  be strong... but as long as Alonso can overtake ...then thats what he will do...

But please Pat...dont try and fool us that Alonso would of been  second anyhow  -cos NO ONE believes it

From eurosport.com :

Ferrari win played down

Rivals play down Ferrari win

Just as one swallow does not make a summer, one win does not make a championship, and this was precisely the reaction from Renault, McLaren and Honda following Ferrari's victory at last weekend's San Marino Grand Prix - an event that often brings out the best of the Scuderia.

Imola is a sacred circuit for Ferrari as it is here that the Scuderia has enjoyed much success, often against the odds, and this year was now different as star driver Michael Schumacher and strategist Ross Brawn coupled together to extract another impressive victory.

They are absolutely right - last year Scummi was chasing Alonso for the last 18 rounds and the rest of the season was not too impressive for Ferrari

Who thought of the 'impressive victory' thing in that quote though ? LOL - only thing that was impressive was the huge blunder of Pat Symonds

Oh, and then this from motorsport.com :

Todt ponders Imola result

Jean Todt intimated that finally Ferrari had shown their speed after Michael Schumacher's narrow victory over Fernando Alonso in Sunday's San Marino Grand Prix at Imola.

Come on - Alonso was almost TWO SECONDS faster per lap !

It starts sounding like the warnings from Saddam before the US invasion - blah blah huge words and then they get their asses kicked - this will also happen to Ferrari
