Raikkonen plays down rumours - again
Posted: 27 Feb 06 7:20 PM (N/A)

From crash.net :

Mercedes engine problems aside, Kimi Raikkonen could find his world championship bid derailed by speculation as rumours about his future direction continue to fly.

The Finn, who was in Italy this past week to support his national ice hockey team at the Winter Olympics, has been linked to a possible deal with Ferrari for 2007, but continues to deny the rumour, despite Finnish newspaper IS Veikkaaja last week claiming that he had rejected a E60million offer from McLaren boss Ron Dennis.

With Michael Schumacher reportedly close to ending his ultra-successful career - either with complete retirement or a swansong involvement with another team - Ferrari is rumoured to be considering the 'dream' pairing of Raikkonen and MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi, who tested strongly with the Scuderia in Spain two weeks ago. The Finn, however, continues to play down the suggestion that he is Maranello-bound, insisting to Italy's Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper that he has more than one option for the future.

Seriously, folks - can you see a finn in a red car ? They kind of belong to the opposition, they don't belong in a red Ferrari. No way ! If you do that, Kimi, I'll stop supporting you !

I have NOT lost my mind — I have it backed up on tape somewhere.

I think that it will depend on Mclarens reliability and how Ferrrari get on this year...but his rumour has been going on for sometime - so it makes you wonder if Kimi has spoken to that red team...and come to an agreement that he will join them if conditions are right....but dont forget there have also been numerous rumours going around with Valentino Rossi getting more tests could he be making the move over....Do we know how long Massa's contract with them is for ...PLUS ofcourse Scummi himself...he might not want to go anywhere INSPITE of how much everyone else wishes he would just GO

Rumor has it Kimi's signed with Ferrari for 2007.

from Grandprix.com:
"There are reports across Europe that Kimi Raikkonen has now inked a deal to join Ferrari in 2007, whether Michael Schumacher is there or not. Stories have been published in various Finnish newspapers, in Germany where the magazine Express has quoted a Ferrari sources saying that the deal is done and in Spain where Fernando Alonso's confidant Adrian Campos has been quoted as saying that Raikkonen will not be Alonso's team mate next year.

The speculation should not , in theory, have any effect on the performance of Michael Schumacher and Felipe Massa as Schumacher will not want to show any signs of weakness if he is going to go up against Raikkonen next year and may not much care if he is planning to retire, while Massa will need good performances if he is going to be out looking for a job again in 2007."
