Giancarlo Fisichella will be Force India's number one driver this season with Vitantonio Liuzzi joining as test driver.   Ahead of the launch of Force India's first Formula One car in Mumbai, the team's co-owner Vijay Mallya confirmed that the veteran Italian would partner Adrian Sutil in the team this year. Asked by Italian sports daily Gazzetta dello Sport whether Fisichella would race for the team, Mallya said:"Absolutely, yes. He has great experience and he will help Sutil improve. "At the Barcelona and Jerez test we tried many drivers, and then we opted for Fisichella and Liuzzi. Giancarlo, in particular, needs no introduction." Fisichella, 34, won three of his 194 Grands Prix with Jordan and Renault and will partner Sutil, who raced with Spyker last season. Liuzzi, meanwhile, is racing in Formula One for the first time away from a Red Bull-backed squad. Mallya set modest expectations for the season ahead, saying that simply improving on the one point scored by Spyker - who he bought the team off in September - would suffice. "I've invested a lot of money to improve the car, but I need to be realistic. I can't make predictions. The objective is obviously to improve on what was done by Spyker last year," he added. The Italian winner of three grands prix - two of them with Renault - claims that, following three consecutive years at the French team and another four in its previous Benetton guise, the Enstone based outfit failed to fulfil its promise of a winning car. Asked by La Gazzetta dello Sport if he is disappointed with Renault, 34-year-old Fisichella answered: "Yes, very much, especially because of the many years together. "The winning car they promised never came," added Fisichella, who was double world champion Fernando Alonso's teammate in 2005 and 2006. The Roman also revealed that he was surprised when he first tested Spyker's 2007 car recently, which was usually the slowest F1 single seater last season. "It is very similar to the (Renault) R27, as it lacks aerodynamic grip," Fisichella told F1's official website. "For sure it needs a big upgrade with a lot of wind tunnel work, but the baseline is as good as Renault's," he added.

So if Fernando hadn't been there in 2005 and 2006 it wouldn't have been a winning car then ?

Just because the loser can't win races it doesn't mean the car is not a winning car.
