Assen's ChampCar World Series race is under threat after local residents filed a lawsuit against the circuit's owners.
The inhabitants of Baagelhuizen, close to the track, claim the track has already used up it's allocation of 'noisy days' for the Moto GP and World Superbike rounds and now want the track fined by a million euros for each day of the ChampCar event.
With neither the track nor the series organisers able to pay out that kind of money, there are fears that the event could be scrapped altogether.
But bosses of the Dutch circuit are adamant that the Superbike weekend did not exceed the allowed limit and claim they still have three days left with which to stage the single-seater race.
ChampCar's David Higdon told Autosport magazine: "The Green Party in Holland has been opposing the race on the grounds of noise pollution, trying to prevent it from happening.
"But ChampCar has had cases like this before and we of have the proper permit in place from the Government of Drenth [the local authority].
"We feel extremely confident the judge will rule in our favour."
The race, which forms part of a European double header with Zolder in Belgium, is scheduled to take place from August 31 - September 2.
Yeah, then drop it - these idiots simply dont realize the revenue such an event brings to their home town and how difficult it is to get on the calendar again once you are off
