Hamilton coy on victory chances

Hamilton coy

Lewis Hamilton has refused to rule out the chance of a maiden Formula One win in this weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix.

The 22-year-old British rookie has made a stunning start to his career at the top level, finishing third on his debut in Australia and following it up with second in Malaysia last weekend.

And he believes that it is simply a question of ‘when' rather than ‘if' when it comes to talking about victories.

Hamilton said: "I'm pushing and working as hard as I can. It [the first victory] may be this weekend, it may be the last race of the year, it may be next year."

But despite setting his sights high, Hamilton is more than ready to admit that despite his incredible start, his first season in Formula One will be tough.

And he knows better than anybody that he must continue to develop his driving alongside his double world champion team-mate Fernando Alonso.

"Yes I have had two podium finishes but I still am a rookie, I still have a lot to learn," Hamilton added.

"I know it may not particularly look like it, but there are huge amounts for me to learn from Fernando and from the team, different tracks that I haven't been to.

"There are going to be some major challenges for me this year that can take me by surprise or I might be fortunate enough to prepare for them better than other people may have and it might go smoothly.”

If he takes a top three spot in Bahrain, Hamilton, the GP2 Series champion will become the first man in Formula One history to finish on the podium in their first three races

Actually I wouldn't wonder if he would do it - I think this guy has a huge potential. The biggest hurdle for winning a race now might be team orders (did I just say team orders ?)

Title a possibility, says Hamilton.

From crash.net :

Lewis Hamilton believes that it may well be possible for him to mount a championship challenge this season, even though he is only in his first season at the pinnacle of the sport.

The McLaren man has been sensational thus far and he continued his fantastic start to his debut year in F1 on Sunday in Bahrain, when he took his third podium finish in as many events.

The result means he currently has the same amount points in the drivers' championship, as his team-mate and two time world champion, Fernando Alonso and Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen - all three tied at the top, having scored 22 points thus far.

Is he now being unrealistic ?

Not even the scumbag managed to take the title in his first season - go for it Lewis, show the world that there are better drivers than the cheater !

Whitmarsh: Hamilton could be greatest
Posted: 18 Apr 07 7:23 PM (N/A)

From eurosport.com :

"Lewis could be best ever"

British rookie Lewis Hamilton could become the greatest driver Formula One has ever seen, according to McLaren chief executive Martin Whitmarsh.

"Why not?," he told Wednesday's Guardian newspaper, after the Briton's third podium finish in three races at the weekend. "It's obviously too early to analyse but if the trend continues there is no reason why he could not be the greatest driver ever."

Whitmarsh, who has worked at McLaren with the likes of Brazilian Ayrton Senna and France's quadruple champion Alain Prost, said he had "a pretty clear picture of what gives the top guys that crucial edge over the simply good or average drivers.

"And I think it is pretty clear that Lewis ticks all the necessary boxes."

Who hoo - this is not ending. Everybody seems to be completely amazed by this guy. I wish we could get another all times best than the one we have
