Honda target Bahrain win
Posted: 08 Mar 06 7:36 PM (N/A)

From eurosport.com :

It might be almost 40 years since Honda competed in F1 as a 100% manufacturer, but despite the absence, the new team born out of BAR Honda has set their sights on winning their very first Grand Prix in Bahrain this weekend, and if winter testing is anything to go by, they are in a position to do so.

The new RA106 chassis has been both quick and reliable since it hit the track in Barcelona in mid January, and with the Honda V8 reckoned to be one of the strongest units on the grid, both Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello have the ingredients to win come Sunday.

I am not sure any of these guys have the ingredients to win - Buttplug has never done it and Rubinho probably forgot how it goes because he was never allowed

Have to agree with you on this one..The car might of been running well through winter testing - but that means naff all as we all know from previous years....Renault will take some beating...but  I feel that Handa will still have to get passed the likes of Renault, Mclaren and SADLY I have to  put Ferrari up there..

Butty hasnt got it in him and as you said Rubinho will be  waiting for those 'team orders' to come through his earpiece...or you will have two people trying to dictate whose the better one of them ...which will only end up  both of them falling over each other....

I guess this new format of qualifying  will sort out a lot of those...should be  some good midtrack battles - however I cant help but  feel the  same cars will be  heading them down to the first corner

Erhm - why that ?

I actually believe that the Honda is the better car than the Ferrari this year

I don't understand why people cannot see how much potential Jenson Button has as a driver.

In 2004, he was 3rd overall in points, just behind Schumacher and Barrichello in their way-too-much faster Ferraris cladded in better Bridgestone tyres (for that year). He brought the first ever top grid qualifying for his team, and he's been on the podium several times.  The BAR Honda wasn't even that fast back then.

He has been able to beat all team mates so far.   It is just plain bad luck that he has never been in a competitive enough car like Renault, McLaren or Ferrari to show his talent, or to propel him on to the Top Podium.

Some people just don't get it.  They tend to believe a driver can pull tricks with a car that isn't even on the same pace as the others, especially when we are talking in seconds (which all adds up).

I think Button will finally show himself this year is what initially seems to be a competitive car, for the first time in his F1 Career.

Hi Omotesando.....and  welcome to the forum... we hope that you post on  here often...its always good to have peoples opinions of drivers etc..

Im sorry but you have to  forgive me atleast...  I know  Jenson ...have done for a good many years and also know what he CAN be like ( as in  not when hes in  front of the TV cameras etc) - dont get me  wrong... we used to get on  great and he even organised some pitlane photography for me as I was  working  freelance...so for that he was great... but his attitude as his career kicked off changed and even by the end of  his season at Williams - he  HAD changed into someone I know longer knew - in such a  short time...

OK   now from a  drivers point of view...  YES his  season  did get  better as the season  went on ...and I  believe he WILL get a  win at some point with Honda  BUT... unless a miracle happens and we have car failures from MAINLY Kimi, Monty, Michael, Fernando ( I wont  put  Fisi there cos I believe that Buttplug( sorry thats our nickname for him on so many sites) can  beat him  if hes close enough.....  then hes going to  struggle ...Obviously NO ONE  knows at the moment  which way it will go ..... but there has been all this  hype about him being the 'top British driver'  THIS was  still being said when  David Coulthard had  finished in the points with Red Bull and  Butty  just hadnt even  got ONE point on the board....plus he has had over 100 races  now and still hasnt got a  win.... MAYBE  now  hes not  with Louise, his mind will be more  focused,,,who knows !!
But  dont  take it too seriously when we  have a go at Buttplug... Im sure  deep down he will get on that  top step of the podium and will eventually  be in a position to fight for a championship - but just not yet...
