Briatore escapes punishment
Posted: 21 Sep 06 7:37 PM (N/A)

From eurosport.com :

No penalty for Briatore
Renault team boss Flavio Briatore will not face any punishment over controversial comments he made after the Italian Grand Prix.

Following a weekend that saw his driver Fernando Alonso dropped five places on the grid for blocking Felipe Massa in qualifying, Briatore told an Italian TV crew that F1 was similar to the match-fixing scandal that has blighted Italian football

That prompted the sport's governing body the FIA to launch a full investigation into whether the claims brought the sport into disrepute, but they have now decided to take no action against Briatore.

FIA president Max Mosley said: “In the heat of the moment, he said some impulsive stuff. He let his emotions get to him. Considering the circumstance, sometimes you just have to be tolerant.

“The FIA can only punish if the quotes damage the image of the sport, and I don't think that's happened."

Flavio's comments didn't damage the sport but the decision itself bloody well did !

I have NOT lost my mind — I have it backed up on tape somewhere.

100% agree with you there Freddie...  Why in the hell should a team boss get punished for speaking the truth ALL BECAUSE its bad mouthing Ferrari and Scummi...

I SOO hope that when Scummi goes and Ross Brawn takes this suspected year out...isnt also Jean Todts contract up with them at the end of this season.... that they have  a truely CRAP season next year....  Mind you Im still wondering how long it will take Ferrari to think up some ruling to discredit those cars in front of them for todays grid ( no spoilers as such for those of you that dont know the grid for the Chinese GP)...

Roll on the end of the FIA ( Ferrari Independant Authority)!! favouritisim to Ferrari and Scummi and  let the sport BECOME a sport once again and not a business !!
