Renault team boss Flavio Briatore will not face any punishment over controversial comments he made after the Italian Grand Prix. Following a weekend that saw his driver Fernando Alonso dropped five places on the grid for blocking Felipe Massa in qualifying, Briatore told an Italian TV crew that F1 was similar to the match-fixing scandal that has blighted Italian football That prompted the sport's governing body the FIA to launch a full investigation into whether the claims brought the sport into disrepute, but they have now decided to take no action against Briatore. FIA president Max Mosley said: “In the heat of the moment, he said some impulsive stuff. He let his emotions get to him. Considering the circumstance, sometimes you just have to be tolerant. “The FIA can only punish if the quotes damage the image of the sport, and I don't think that's happened."

Flavio's comments didn't damage the sport but the decision itself bloody well did !
