And it's this:
ITV. And the coverage of F1 in general. What were ITV thinking? They've replaced Jim Rosenthal with Steve Ryder!!! What mad fool thought that one up? Time was that your casual viewer could watch F1 and not worry that they didn't know too much about the sport, because the guy presenting the programme clearly got his knowledge of the sport from the Puffin Book Of F1 Facts ten minutes before the show went on air. Now they've poached someone who knows his onions, and that sense of wellbeing has gone for a burton. And I don't need to say anything about James Allen that hasn't been said before, but really, he should stop trying tio be Murray Walker. Murray had his own unique style, James should try the same. But, I suppose Martin Brundle does the best he can, given the material he has to work with, and at least they've got rid of that patronising Tony Jardine. My God, you could tell he was a teacher in a former life. Sure, he knew his stuff, but honestly, I sometimes felt like I was a five year old being taught 1+1. So we are left with Mark Blundell, who I am sure is Dick Van Dyke's lovechild - every time he opens his gob I expect him to say "wotcha, Mary Poppins," Louise Goodman, who does an excellent line in really rubbing it in to the drivers when they have crashed out, and will always have a special place in my heart for her classic comment at last year's Bahrain GP:
Louise: "So, no champagne for you today then."
Hapless Driver (can't remember who): "Well, actually there'll be no champagne for anybody since it's a dry country."
And finally, there is Kevin Piper, who whilst not especially irritating in the James Allen sense of the word, seems to think absolutely everything is an "interesting development," and always tries to finish his piece with a dramatic statement, like "this race ain't over yet, guys" or somesuch remark.
But not everything is the fault of ITV. I understand that they simply add their commentary of the race onto the pictures they are given, so what was going on yesterday? I mean, okay, they didn't just focus on the leader the whole time, thereby giving the impression that the race was quite dull - they had the whole field and the second half of the race to do that for them - but I'm not arsed whether Toady wears elastoplast or not to stop himself biting his nails. And judging by that waistline of his, they had better put elastoplast on the pies in the motorhome as well - he's no stranger to McDonald's is he? And how many times can you watch a Cosworth go "pop" before it gets boring? I mean, it's not like, say, a racing incident between two drivers where you can analyze and debate who did what to who. Which is something the Malaysian TV wallahs realise, because there was only really one incident like that yesterday AND THEY WENT AND MISSED IT!!!!!!!!! All we know is that Raikkonen and Klien touched at the start, ending both of their races. But we didn't get to bloody well see it, did we???
Honestly, there are plenty of people who could do a better job of it - unfortunately, I'm stuck working in a hospital...
I'm on Grant A Rant??? Excellent!!!!!
Do rants on there have to be motorsport related? Because I am a very angry person about a great many things, it could become a weekly feature!!!
Well, I would say they should preferrably be about motorsport, but we could set up two granted rants sections :
General rants
Motorsport related rants
But they have to be good to be granted
What does everytbody think ? I would have nothing against some good rant reading no matter what the rant is about.
