AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA !!!! Lost the entire evening trying to figure out how to get rid of the stupid useless 59 GB database transaction log file - now it is back to 16 MB. The disk space in the server was getting dangerously low. Anyway, hope nobody noticed too much server downtime - the box was pretty busy at times

I was getting annoyed about the decreasing performance of the racingpredictions.com site, but of course with a two digit million number of hits per year the load on the servers had been increasing steadily. Before going out to buy a new server I thought I might just try to increase the RAM signifcantly so I just tried that at it treally takes off now. Sorry to everybody for the inconvenience - I hope you can now again enjoy the site. Of course there can be small delays of a few seconds now and then, web applications are very complex but I have incorporated a lot of failsafe and recovery measures. If there is something you think could be improved then please let me know. You are also welcome to let us know if there is something you like in particular

Made my predictions on Friday afternoon, came to check the results today and am astonished that I havent got a mention. It seems that my entry hasnt been entered. I have witnesses!!

Database crash

We had a short power failure here today and the database server refused to come back afterwards. After several attempts it finally started and we are back online. When trying to reconnect, it turned out that our internet router had completely died. Fortunately I had just bought a new one last week-end because I didn't trust the one I had anymore But I was not prepared to have to set up a new router and all the routes and policies today, it was planned for next week-end. But now it is up and running again The database server will be replaced next weekend with a more reliable device - it is also already here because I didn't trust the old machine anymore - isn't intuition a cool thing ? Sorry to everybody who experienced problems connecting to the site today. Please be warned that there might be some short downtimes during next week-end when the database is migrated to the new server.It should only be a question of a few minutes a couple of times Everybody please cross your fingers for me - migrating a database server is not something you want to do for fun, especially not when the contents of several entire portal sites are stored on it

This will switch every few seconds so ti should show another series every time the page is reloaded Try to get your name on one (or all !) of these lists this season - happy predicting

Sorry for the downtime

I had big problems because I moved the DNS hosting since the 'free' service I had been using all of a sudden was not as 'free' anymore. The new free service has now been down or unstable for 24 hours so I had to move again last night. These changes can take up to 48 hours to propagatethrough the internet which caused quite some downtime today Although we are a non-profit site and we have almost no income and still have to finance the prizes for our competitions, I have now decided to use a paid DNS service, even if I have to pay for it myself. I just cannot live with the risk of such downtimes - otherwise I would rather close down the site Sorry again folks, I will try to make sure it will not happen again

Newsfeed module

I have replaced the previous newsfeed module with a RSS to Javascript converter - I think it looks nicer. It also always has the same width and can better display HTML formatting tags. I hope everybody likes it

Ok Ive been trying to add CrazyCaz's photos but had a slight techincal problem...so hopefully Freddie can tell me what the error message means ( he must be so proud of me now you know...even remembered how to do a screen shot save without him having to tell me....ermmm..AGAIN !! LOL) and as soon as thats sorted...those photos will be up on the site - along with some more of Sky's from the USGP :o)
